Batik art, 'A Good Day' (Ghana)
Brilliant color evokes tropical heat in a dazzling composition. Surrounded by empty wicker baskets, two merchant women contemplate the day's sales. Working in batik, Samuel Ashong shares his vision of a Ghanaian market. "I was inspired by the good work our mothers have been doing to support the family," he says. "Empty baskets are a good sign for the business world." Ashong presents the batik in a Manila board passe-partout, ready for framing.
